Summary: Responsible for providing direct medical and behavioral care to patients at the weight loss and diabetes center. Accountable for assessment and treatment of patient’s weight management by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes strong positive, collaborative therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Maintains a cordial, accommodating, and welcoming presence with patients at all times.
  • Assesses the physical status of patients through interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic testing.
  • Determines initial medical diagnosis and initiates appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of the therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing health needs of the patient.
  • Provides for the comfort, safety, privacy, and confidentiality of patients.
  • Develops a health profile by taking health and developmental history, performing physical examination, and by analyzing clinical laboratory data, other diagnostic tests, and pertinent psychosocial information.
  • Assesses data on each patient, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Develops or assists in the development of a weight and/or diabetes management plan.
  • Functions as part of the practice environment health care team by developing medical intervention programs designed to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Provides educational materials and follow-up visit instructions to patients as indicated.
  • Works in collaboration with a designated Medical Assistant.
  • Performs other duties as indicated or assigned by the Practice Administrator.
  • Submits patient lab orders electronically.
  • Responds to and collaborates with referring providers requests.

Required Education/Training:

  • Medical Degree from an Accredited Medical School
  • Valid Medical license in the state of Maine
  • DEA License

Required Experience:

  • Prior work related experience independently managing patient’s behavioral and medical health
  • Full licensure and ability to practice independently in the state of Maine
