Food Journaling

Food Journaling

The cornerstone of long-term weight loss is maintaining a food diary. This effect is strengthened when you email the food diary on a daily basis to your healthcare provider.

The Weight Loss and Diabetes Center recommends the Lose it! food log. Lose it! is a free app.

You can download it for free here:

Here’s a video link on how to track your foods and exercise using Lose It!

How to Use Lose It!

Lose It! syncs with any activity-tracking device you have, has a cool picture-calorie counting function, and, most importantly, makes it incredibly simple to email to our weight loss team.

If you want to get started with the app, here are the steps:

  1. Download Lose it! on your phone or tablet Lose It!
  2. Create an account and enter your  health data and goals.
  3. Begin logging your food, weight, and exercise.
  4. At the end of the day, when you are done logging, Lose it! can send a daily report to any of your provider’s emails.
  5. In iOS, open the app and tap Me>Insights>Manual Email Reports>Email Report. In Android, tap Menu>Profile>Insights>Manual Email Reports>Email Report.
  6. Send the email to our email address or any email address to which you want the report sent.
  7. Type free-form notes into the diary in the top bar, next to the Lose it! logo, and then hit send.

Losing weight and keeping it off is all about lowering the barriers to difficult behaviors. Keeping a daily food diary is hard work, but at least sending it to make the most of your efforts is now easy to do.
